Understanding the Lungs' Role in Vital Energy

In holistic traditions, the Lungs govern the intake of vital Qi, influence skin health, and regulate defensive energy. They are closely linked to the Spleen and Liver systems.

1. Low Lung Function, Reduced Vital Capacity, Shortness of Breath When Climbing Stairs

Insufficient exercise leads to weakened respiratory muscles and incomplete expansion of lung capacity.

· Recommended Courses:

For individuals under 50: 28mins Specific Routine • Fast Fat Burning
For individuals 50 and above: 28mins Internal Organs • Improve Lung Function

For those aged 80 and above or with limited mobility: Cultivating Ongoing Self-Healing • Taoist Yin-Yang Breathing (Practicing breathing exercises the lungs; can be done sitting or lying down)

2. Excessive Phlegm in the Lungs or Throat, Lung Nodules, Chronic Bronchitis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (Emphysema), etc.

· Contributing Factors:
1. Chronic overexertion leads to excessive depletion of Lung Qi, overdrawing lung function.
2. The spleen is responsible for providing clean nutrients to the lungs. When spleen function is insufficient, metabolic waste fluids transform into phlegm, and the spleen delivers nutrients mixed with phlegm to the lungs.
3. Exposure to cold can cause cold to accumulate in the lungs, impairing pulmonary circulation.
4. Liver Qi stagnation (common in individuals with prolonged low mood) can disrupt the flow of Qi throughout the body, suppressing spleen function and affecting lung circulation.

· Core Strategy: Focus on improving lung and spleen function. For individuals with prolonged low mood, liver function should also be addressed.
· Recommended Courses:
28mins Internal Organs • Improve Lung Function
25mins Internal Organs • Improve Spleen Function
25mins Internal Organs • Improve Liver Function

3. Chronic Rhinitis, Nasal Congestion, Frequent Colds, Frequent Skin or Nasal Allergies, etc.

· Primary Cause:
1. The lungs govern the skin and pores, and open into the nose. Deficient lung function or lung cold can affect the pores and nose, leading to abnormal pore function (increased susceptibility to colds) and poor nasal circulation (resulting in rhinitis, congestion, or allergies).
2. Individuals with weak constitutions often have insufficient Yang Qi, leaving the skin surface and nasal passages inadequately protected and vulnerable to invasion by wind and cold.

· Recommended Courses:
28mins Internal Organs • Improve Lung Function
Cultivating Ongoing Self-Healing • Taoist Yin-Yang Breathing (Practicing breathing exercises the lungs; can be done sitting or lying down)
